Description:
This presentation will provide an introduction to NFPA (National Fire Protection Association).  It will include basic information about NFPA standards; fire code adoptions; the ABCs of fire code compliance; the NFPA website; and an overview of how fire codes, fire standards, and local fire code amendments in the City of Austin all interact with each other and how BOMA Members can develop a better understanding of how the whole “system” works.  As part of the discussion, the NFPA standards-development process will be explained, as well as some examples of how BOMA Members can utilize NFPA standards for building safety.

PRESENTER:
Bob Sullivan is the Southwest Regional Director for the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), assisting with code adoptions, legislative advocacy, and stakeholder engagement in the States of Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, and Utah.  Mr. Sullivan has over 31 years of experience serving on fire departments in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Colorado, including several years as a company officer.  Prior to coming to NFPA, he served on the Thornton Fire Department in Colorado as the Senior Fire Protection Engineer and Deputy Fire Marshal, focusing on new development construction and fire code enforcement.  He has a Master's Degree in Fire Protection Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and is a Certified Fire Protection Specialist.
